Sesame is one of the oldest oil seed crops known and grown in Uganda. Sesame is drought tolerant and is able to grow where other crops fail. Has one of the highest oil contents of any seed. Sesame oil is one of the most stable vegetable oils. Oils from sesame is used in cooking, as salad oils and margarine and contains about 47% oleic and 39% linoleic acid, is also rich in omega 6 fatty acids, protein, has good effective carbohydrates and contains water soluble antioxidants that provide added shelf life to many products.
This flour also called sesame meal is an excellent high-protein feed for poultry and livestock. The oil can be used in the manufacture of soaps, paints, perfumes, pharmaceuticals and insecticides.
